Italy - Music!

+4 notes

We have also been listening to Italian music!  Primarily, in the car and in the exercise room at work.

In the exercise room, there is a TV that has a radio station that either plays the video for the song on the radio or people taking in the studio.  The station is pretty funny in its own right, it is RTL 102.5 or “cento-due-cinque” where the DJs speak Italian but the segment titles and slogans are in English, including the constant “Very Normal People” jingle.

In addition to the seemingly frequent Bryan Adams, here are some of the popular songs in Italy that we like, are just funny, or are very popular.

Funny:

We No Speak Americano - Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP Hilarious, and apparently this was at the top of the charts of almost every country besides the US in Spring 2010.

Il Piu Fragile - Gianluca Grignani (“The more fragile”)  This video is pretty funny, a long haired sensitive rocker type.

Good:

Sono Gia Solo - Moda (“I’m already alone”) Rock song, with drama.  I could see a song like this being popular in the US.

She Said - Plan B Super catchy, and the video reminds me of 12 Angry Men.

Je Veux - Zaz In French, a nice song.

My Baby Left Me and I Don’t Believe - Rox   I like her, and plan to get the album.

Popular English Songs:

Soul Sister - Train  When we first got here, we heard this song at least several times a day.  Then, Katy Perry took over.

California Gurls - Katy Perry  Yeah, she’s huge here too.  (Check out the video, then watch this completely serious making-the-video.  Turns out the video is based on this guy’s paintings??)

Alejandro - Lady Gaga (or is it 90s Madonna?)

Te Amo - Rihanna  We love you too, Rihanna

Most Strange:

That Ain’t My America - Lynyrd Skynyrd We heard this on the radio twice.. so we reminisced about buying gas in gallons instead of liters.
