Bah-stun LGO Interview Tips

I returned to a snowy Cambridge this week in preparation for my last semester at MIT.

As I write my thesis and prepare for graduation, applicants for LGO’13s will soon be trekking through the snow in Cambridge to interview on campus.  Here, I will help Make Way for (New) Ducklings with a few Boston-themed tips to make your interview trip a bit smoother, with many pics from our first year in Boston!

The Big Dig - For the interviews, one of the hardest parts is coming up with stories you didn’t already use in your essays.  And yes, they will call you out if you do.  Yes, *everyone* used their best stories in their essays, that’s what got you here.  However, LGOs need to dig deep.

(Dry) Red Sox - Boston has a lot of snow on the ground now, and more to come next week.  Keep your suit pants clean and your best foot forward by wearing boots or other shoes, then change into dress shoes when you’re inside.

Plymouth Rock - Is operations your rock, your true passion?  Use your time on your visit to help understand if LGO is the right fit for you and what you want to do.   It is not the right fit for everyone, but it for those who love ops, its the best!!

Mens et Manus - The MIT motto “mind and hand” is a great fit for LGOs too!  LGOs bring the technical skills, the drive to get our hands dirty on the operations plant floor, and the professional business aptitude needed to implement and lead.

Johanna LGOs:  Fun yet Professional

Fits to a “T”- Your time on campus is a great opportunity to get to know if MIT is the place for you.  People are what make LGO awesome!   Throughout the interview day, get to know other applicants and current students during events and activities.  Over the weekend and evenings, spend time with more students at dinners and other planned events.

Boston Marathon - Interview day is a longgg day with many people to meet, keep up your stamina.  But remember you’ll need to manage much more in the summer and core semesters!

Cheers! - May LGO become the place where “everyone knows your name”

Bonus:  a few pictures from my interview weekend, two years ago!
