An artifact of the great and lasting community formed by the LGO organization is the prestigious LGO award, the Charles “Harrison” Smith award. It is a peer award, with the first-year students nominating and then voting for our peers; selecting someone who has had a strong and lasting impact on LGO, honoring the late Harrison Smith from the LFM class of ‘99. (More details from the LGO website below)
The awards ceremony this week was quite moving, with pictures of Harrison and stories from his classmates reflecting on his impact. Additionally, four of his family members and several past recipients were present.
Following the reflection period, Don announced that the recipient of the Charles “Harrison” Smith award for the LGO Class of 2011 is Todd Waldron.

Todd was selected for his immense and lasting impact on the LGO program through his involvement and leadership in multiple LGO activities, including organizer and team captain for several sporting events, a key leader of events for LGO 2012 class interview fest, and building bridges with our partners in China through CLFM. Through these and other actions, he joins and unites the class of 2011 while building a stronger LGO for the future.

LGO Hockey and Softball, with Todd as team captain of both teams for the LGO’11s.
Also, congratulations are due to the other nominees in our class, David Hwang, Steve Smith, and Donovan Collins.
From the LGO Website:
“The Charles “Harrison” Smith III Memorial Award honors a member of the Class of 1999, who was tragically killed in a car accident just days after his graduation, while en route to his job at Dell, Inc. He was just 27 years old.
Smith’s classmates established the award shortly after his death as a way to honor and remember his lasting contributions to the LFM program. As a result, each subsequent LGO class has had the opportunity to nominate peers who they believe have made outstanding contributions to the program in their first year of matriculation.”
